This is a Dell BOSS (Boot Optimized Storage Solution) controller card in the full-height, customer-installable kit form factor. BOSS cards are a dedicated PCIe add-in card used in Dell PowerEdge rack and tower servers to host the operating system on a pair of small M.2 NVMe or SATA SSDs in a mirrored (RAID 1) configuration, deliberately separate from the server's main data drives. The purpose is to free up the front drive bays entirely for data storage while still giving the boot volume proper redundancy, rather than 'wasting' two hot-plug bays just to mirror an OS install. It integrates with Dell's PERC-family RAID management tools for monitoring and firmware updates and installs into a dedicated internal BOSS slot present on supported PowerEdge motherboards. As a customer kit, it ships with the card itself and the mounting hardware needed for a self-install, without the M.2 boot drives themselves, which are ordered separately to match the target server generation.
