ATEN 8-port 17'' Dual Rail LCD IP Cat5 KVM - D.Rail LCD KVM IP SW. W/(USKB/SPKB)/W/(US/EU) CORD

This ATEN unit is an 8-port LCD KVM-over-IP switch built into a 1U dual-rail rack-mount console: a 17" LCD screen, keyboard and touchpad slide out as one integrated drawer, so a data centre rack needs no separate monitor, keyboard or mouse to manage the servers connected to it. Up to 8 computers connect directly via Cat5 cabling to individual KVM adapters (rather than bulky VGA/PS2 cable runs), and the switch supports both PS/2 and USB keyboard/mouse interfaces on the connected computers. It ships with US keyboard and both US and EU power cord options for the target market.

More Info

Beyond the local LCD console, the "IP" designation means this switch can also be reached remotely over the network: an administrator can access, monitor and control any of the 8 connected servers from a web browser anywhere on the network (or internet with appropriate access), including full keyboard/video/ mouse control - genuinely useful for out-of-band server management when a technician isn't on-site. ATEN's dual-rail LCD KVM switches of this class also support daisy-chaining additional 8-port units, scaling control up to well over a hundred servers from the one console and IP address. It's a standard data-centre/server-room fixture for consolidating rack space and cutting down on the clutter of a monitor-per-server setup, while keeping a genuine physical console available for BIOS-level or pre-boot access that a software-only remote tool can't reach.
