Garmin Airmar B260 - 1kW

Garmin Airmar B260 - 1kW

The Airmar B260 is a bronze thru-hull transducer built for permanent installation through a boat's hull below the waterline, manufactured by Airmar — the specialist transducer maker behind most of Garmin's higher-power sonar transducers. This is the 1kW-rated version, a dual-frequency conventional (non-CHIRP) transducer operating at 50kHz and 200kHz, giving both a wide-angle low-frequency beam for deep water and general bottom tracking, and a narrower high-frequency beam for sharper detail in shallower water.

More Info

With its 1kW power rating, the B260 is intended for larger vessels and deeper-water use — Airmar rates it to roughly 762m (2,500ft) depth on the 50kHz low-frequency element and around 206-294m (680-965ft) on the 200kHz high-frequency element, well beyond what a typical transom-mount transducer can reach. Its beamwidths are approximately 19° at 50kHz and 6° at 200kHz. Bronze thru-hull construction suits fiberglass and wood hulls (a different housing material, such as plastic, is normally used for aluminium hulls to avoid galvanic corrosion) and the unit weighs roughly 7.3kg (16lb), fitting a 30mm (1-3/16") hull hole with a 121mm (4.75") usable shaft length, supporting hull deadrise up to roughly 20-30° and vessels up to about 9-11m (30-36ft). It's supplied with a connector matched to Garmin sonar/chartplotter systems, and because it's a permanent hull-penetrating installation, fitting is normally done during a haul-out or new build rather than as a DIY retrofit.
