The Alto Power Series AP720 is a compact 720VA line interactive UPS for a single desktop PC, a router and fibre ONT, or a small point-of-sale setup. With a 0.6 output power factor it delivers roughly 430 W, and its built-in buck and boost AVR corrects the brown-outs and over-voltage that South African supply is known for, without dropping to battery every time the mains dips. On mains it passes a sine wave; on battery it switches to a modified sine wave, which suits PCs, monitors, modems and PABXs but not pumps or motors. Alto quotes 10 to 15 minutes of backup depending on load, enough to save work and shut down cleanly. It runs on one 12 V 7 Ah sealed lead-acid battery, recharges to 90% in 6 to 8 hours (even when switched off), supports cold start, self-tests on start-up and has MOV surge protection plus a USB port for monitoring software.
