The Amphenol TM1RJ is a right-angle 1/4-inch (6.35 mm) mono jack plug from Amphenol's patented SwitchPlug range, made for guitar and other instrument cables. A SwitchPlug has a built-in switch: when the plug is pulled out of an instrument, a 360-degree sliding helical spring contact shorts the signal to ground, so you can change guitars on stage without the loud buzz, thump or pop that normally comes through the amplifier or PA. The sliding contact also cleans itself every time the plug is inserted, which reduces oxidation and crackle. The TM1RJ has a right-angle body that sits neatly against the side of a guitar, a large cable clamp for cables of about 3.0 to 5.5 mm outer diameter, nickel-plated contacts and a satin nickel shell. Amphenol notes that SwitchPlugs are designed for instrument use only.
