The Garmin Approach S12 is a dedicated, entry-level GPS golf watch for players who want simple, reliable yardages without paying for a full multisport smartwatch. It comes preloaded with more than 42,000 CourseView golf courses worldwide, so there is no course download step before a round — the watch automatically recognises the course and shows distances to the front, middle and back of every green, plus key hazards and doglegs. Its Green View feature lets you manually reposition the pin for a more accurate look at the green's true shape, and it keeps a simple digital scorecard and stats that sync to the Garmin Golf app afterwards. The 0.9" x 0.9" (175 x 175 px) display is a sunlight-readable, touchscreen monochrome MIP screen in a lightweight 43.7mm fibre-reinforced polymer case (34.1g) with a black silicone quick-release band, rated 5 ATM water resistant. Battery life runs to about 30 hours in GPS/golf mode, or roughly 10 weeks in plain watch mode. It is deliberately basic beyond golf — no heart-rate sensor, no smartphone notifications, no other sport tracking — so it suits a golfer who wants one job done well and cheaply; anyone wanting fitness tracking or notifications alongside their round should look at the Approach S62 instead.
