Functionally it works the same way as the rest of the EmpirBus range: it wires into the boat's 12V DC circuits and its NMEA 2000 backbone, and every connected load -- lighting, pumps, fans, hatches, and similar accessory circuits -- can then be switched, monitored and automated from a Garmin chartplotter at the helm instead of a bank of mechanical toggle switches and fuses. Any input channel can be configured as either a digital or analog input, and Garmin fits high-accuracy current feedback on the outputs so real current draw per channel is visible in real time, which is useful for spotting a stuck pump or a circuit pulling more than it should before it trips a breaker. The unit's NMEA 2000 connection is galvanically isolated and needs no separate powered bus, its case is IP65-rated high-grade polycarbonate for a damp marine environment, and this particular variant adds CAN and RS485 serial interfaces plus Wi-Fi connectivity and extended onboard memory (xMem) for larger or more data-intensive digital-switching setups.
