This is a Garmin EmpirBus Digital Control Module (DCM) -- the same digital switching product family as the Connect 50 elsewhere in Garmin's marine electronics range, but this specific unit is the higher-channel-count NXT-generation DCM configured with 16 universal, user-configurable bi-directional I/O channels rather than Connect 50's fixed input/output split. It replaces traditional mechanical breakers and relay panels with a single NMEA 2000-networked switching module, letting a boat's lighting, pumps, wipers and other DC circuits be controlled and monitored from a chartplotter or EmpirBus control interface.

Each of the 16 channels can be individually configured as either an input or an output, giving significant installation flexibility versus a fixed-channel unit -- output ratings vary by channel, with 4 high-side channels rated 3-18A and 12 high-side channels rated 3-10A, plus low-side output capability at 0.5A per channel, all under a 100A total module rating. It supports both 12V and 24V DC systems (9-16VDC and 9-32VDC supply ranges respectively) with built-in DC reverse-polarity protection and an IP65 environmental rating for a wet engine-room or bilge installation. Digital inputs handle simple switch closures, while analog inputs read voltage (0-32V) and resistance (0-1500 ohm) signals for tank-level senders and similar sensors. Communication runs over CAN-bus NMEA 2000 via a Micro 5-pin M12 connector, with channel wiring on a Molex MX150L 16-circuit connector. As with the Connect 50, this DCM can operate standalone or be networked with additional DCMs and a master EmpirBus control unit for boats with a larger number of circuits than one 16-channel module can cover.
