Garmin DCM 12/24V, 12V, In 16, Out 16, 18A

This is a Garmin-ecosystem Digital Control Module (DCM), the switching hardware at the heart of Garmin's EmpirBus-based marine digital switching system. Rather than running a dedicated wire and mechanical switch from the helm to every light, pump, and accessory on a boat, a DCM is installed near the loads it controls and receives commands over the NMEA 2000 network from a compatible Garmin chartplotter or helm display, replacing a traditional fuse panel and wiring loom with software-defined circuits. This unit is rated for both 12V and 24V DC systems and is specified here running at 12V, with 16 physical inputs and 16 outputs, each channel rated to 18A.
In practice this module lets an installer group navigation lights, bilge pumps, cabin lighting, washdown pumps and similar 12V accessories into a single compact enclosure that can be mounted close to the load bank, cutting down on long high-current wiring runs. Each of the 16 outputs reports real-time current draw back to the network, so a helm display can flag an overloaded or failed circuit instantly rather than the owner discovering a blown fuse days later. The 16 inputs allow physical switches, sensors or alarms elsewhere on the boat to be wired in and read digitally. As with the rest of the Garmin/EmpirBus digital-switching range, it is aimed at boat builders and refit yards standardising a vessel's electrical system on one digitally monitored architecture rather than at a single retrofit accessory.
