Garmin DCM, 12V, In 16, Out 16, 18A

This is a second Garmin/EmpirBus Digital Control Module (DCM) variant in Marvel's catalogue, built on the same EmpirBus NXT digital switching architecture as EmpirBus's other DCM units -- the module that replaces a boat's mechanical fuse panel and switch board with networked, software-defined circuit control driven from a compatible Garmin chartplotter/MFD. Like every DCM, it sits inline with the vessel's 12V DC wiring, and each circuit's power state, protection, and diagnostics are handled digitally over the EmpirBus/NMEA 2000 network rather than through a physical breaker and toggle switch, with the module itself doing the actual current switching and electronic fusing out at the load.

More Info

This unit's own model code specifies a straightforward, symmetrical 16-in/16-out configuration, each channel rated at 18A -- a simpler, general-purpose I/O layout than Marvel's other listed DCM, which splits its outputs into standard, high-power, and negative-switched groups. That makes this variant well suited to a vessel's more evenly-loaded circuits -- cabin lighting, pumps, fans, accessory power -- rather than a mix of a few very heavy loads alongside many light ones. As with every DCM, it provides electronic fuse protection with programmable trip current, under-current fault detection, and soft start/stop, and reports real-time load and fault status back to the network for display on a compatible chartplotter. It's sold as the bare control module for professional installation into a vessel's DC distribution system during a build or refit, not a retail consumer accessory.
