This is a Garmin Digital Control Module (DCM) rated for 12V systems, with 16 inputs and 16 outputs each rated to 18A, and specifically noted as reverse-polarity capable. Reverse polarity on an output channel means the module can actively swap the positive/negative polarity delivered to that circuit — a genuine functional requirement (not just a wiring convenience) for driving reversible-direction 12V DC motors such as windshield wipers, powered hatches, sunroofs, and other accessories that need to run in both directions rather than simply switching on and off.
Standard switched outputs on most DCMs can only turn a load fully on or off; a reverse-polarity-capable channel like the ones on this module is a specific hardware feature needed to let a Garmin display or connected control panel command a wiper motor to sweep, or a hatch motor to open and close, digitally over the same NMEA 2000 network used for every other switched circuit on the boat. Like every DCM in Garmin's EmpirBus digital switching range, each output also reports real-time current draw back to the network, and the 16-input/16-output layout gives a boat builder or installer a full complement of channels for a moderate-size 12V electrical installation with at least some reversible-motor accessories to control.
