Dell ROK Microsoft WS Datacenter 2025 - Additional 16 Core License
This is a supplemental core-pack add-on for Microsoft Windows Server 2025 Datacenter — not a standalone operating system license, but an additional 16-core entitlement that attaches to an existing base Datacenter ROK license (the base license elsewhere in this range) on the same physical server. Microsoft's per-core Windows Server licensing requires every physical core in the server to be licensed, with the base license covering the first 16 — a server with two high-core-count Xeon processors easily has 32, 48, or more physical cores in total, so anything beyond the base 16-core entitlement has to be covered by additional core packs exactly like this one.
In practice, that means this SKU is only meaningful paired with a base Datacenter 2025 ROK license already licensing the first 16 cores of the same server — buying it alone doesn't grant any Windows Server rights by itself, since it's purely incremental core coverage, not a complete license. It carries the same Datacenter-edition entitlements as the base license once combined (unlimited Hyper-V VMs, Storage Spaces Direct, Storage Replica, Shielded VMs, Software-Defined Networking) — the additional core license doesn't unlock extra features beyond what Datacenter already includes, it simply extends the existing license's core coverage to stay compliant with Microsoft's per-core licensing rules on a higher-core-count server.
