The Garmin Descent G1 Solar – Ocean Edition is a special version of Garmin's entry-level dive computer/smartwatch, built with the same dive and training capability as the standard Descent G1 Solar but made using 100% recycled ocean-bound plastics for its housing, bezel and buttons — Garmin's first product using this material, aimed at environmentally-conscious divers. It supports the full Descent dive-mode set (single and multi-gas, gauge, apnea, apnea hunt, closed-circuit rebreather) at a 100m depth rating, and runs 30+ sport-specific apps, sleep tracking, and Bluetooth smartphone notifications above water, identical to the standard G1 range. The 45.5mm reinforced-polymer case houses a 0.9" (176 x 176 px) monochrome transflective MIP display behind a scratch-resistant, solar-charging sapphire lens, and is tested to US military 810 standards for thermal, shock and water resistance. It uses a three-piece QuickFit-22 wrist band rather than the two-piece integrated band of the non-solar G1. Battery life is up to 25 hours in dive mode, and with solar charging from daily outdoor light exposure, Garmin rates smartwatch-mode battery life at up to 124 days — making this the longest-running G1 variant, at a premium over the standard (non-Ocean Edition) Descent G1 Solar colourways.
