The Garmin Descent G1 Solar is a combined dive computer and everyday smartwatch, the solar-charging variant of Garmin's entry-level Descent line below the Mk2s/Mk3s series, for recreational and technical divers who also want a full sports/wellness watch above water. It supports multiple dive modes (single and multi-gas, gauge, apnea, apnea hunt, and closed-circuit rebreather) with a 100m/330ft depth rating, leak-proof inductive buttons, and a solar-charging sapphire lens, and can log up to 200 dives. Above the surface it runs 30+ built-in sport apps (running, cycling, swimming, hiking, golf, yoga, surfing and more), tracks sleep with a sleep score, and delivers smartphone notifications over Bluetooth, plus GPS/GLONASS/Galileo positioning for marking surface entry/exit points. The 45.5mm case (15.2mm thick, around 61g) uses a fibre-reinforced polymer bezel and lining with a 0.9" (176 x 176 px) monochrome transflective MIP display. In this Solar Black colourway, battery life is up to 25 hours in dive mode and, with regular daily sunlight exposure (roughly 3 hours at 50,000+ lux), Garmin rates smartwatch-mode battery life as extending well beyond a non-solar Descent G1 — up to several weeks longer between charges, making it the better choice over the plain (non-solar) G1 for divers who spend a lot of time outdoors between dives.
