The Garmin GMR Fantom 24x is a solid-state dome radar built for boaters who want strong, accurate target detection without the bulk, spin-up time, or radiation concerns of a traditional magnetron open-array or pulse radar. This is the 24-inch dome version in white, offering the widest coverage of Garmin's Fantom x-series dome radars, with real range out to 48 nautical miles and down to as close as 20 feet — useful both for long-range weather and traffic awareness offshore and for tight-quarters close-range target discrimination near docks, channel markers, and other vessels.
It transmits at 50 watts with a 3.7-degree beam width and spins at up to 60 RPM for fast screen refresh, using Garmin's solid-state pulse compression technology to deliver sharp target separation at both short and long range from a single unit — something that traditionally required switching between two radars. MotionScope, Garmin's Doppler-based target-highlighting feature, colour-codes approaching versus receding targets directly on the radar overlay so a moving vessel or squall line stands out instantly. Adjustable target resolution and a selectable power-save mode let the operator balance detection performance against battery draw. Physically the dome measures 25.4 x 9.8 inches with a 23-inch antenna and weighs about 17.4 lbs, mounting on a standard radar arch or mast and networking into a compatible Garmin MFD such as the GPSMAP series over the Garmin Marine Network.
