The Garmin fenix 8 (47mm) Sapphire Solar swaps the standard fenix 8's AMOLED screen for a sunlight-visible, always-on transflective MIP display with solar charging built into the lens, aimed at multi-day expedition, ultra-endurance and thru-hiking use where battery life matters more than screen vibrancy. This unit has a Bare Titanium bezel with an Amp Yellow/Graphite band (AU/NZ/AFR regional SKU). The display is 1.3" at 260 x 260 resolution under a Sapphire Power Glass lens, in a titanium case rated to 10 ATM and dive-rated, weighing around 80g. It carries the same dual-frequency multi-band GPS with SatIQ, Elevate Gen 5 heart rate sensor with ECG, Pulse Ox, preloaded TopoActive mapping, built-in speaker and microphone, LED flashlight, Garmin Pay and full training/recovery metric suite as the AMOLED fenix 8. Its real advantage is battery life: up to 21 days in smartwatch mode (28 days with typical solar input), up to 67 hours in GPS-only mode (up to 92 hours with solar), and up to 37 hours with all-systems multi-band GNSS running (up to 43 hours with solar) — Garmin's solar figures assume roughly 3 hours per day at 50,000 lux of outdoor light. Choose this over the AMOLED fenix 8 if very long, multi-day battery life matters more than having the brightest, most colourful screen.
