This combination suits a sailor who wants both dedicated sailing instrumentation (wind angle/speed, boat speed through water) and a general-purpose marine instrument that can also show fuel level, engine data, battery voltage and other NMEA 2000 parameters on the same glass-bonded, high-contrast monochrome display technology used across Garmin's GNX/GMI range. As with the DST810-equipped packs, the transducer provides fast 5Hz water-speed updates, depth to 330ft, and heel/trim and pitch/roll sensing via its internal attitude sensor, all shared over NMEA 2000 to every compatible display on the boat's network - so the same depth/speed/wind data feeding the sailing displays is also available to a connected chartplotter at the helm. Garmin's GMI and GNX display families share the same physical mounting footprint and NMEA 2000 cabling standard, so mixing a GMI 20 alongside GNX wind instruments in one pack doesn't complicate installation on an existing network backbone.
