The Garmin GPSMAP 1022 is a 10.1-inch chartplotter from Garmin's GPSMAP 1000 series, built as a dedicated navigation display rather than a combination sonar/chartplotter unit — this "non-sonar" listing has no built-in transducer port for direct sonar, though it can still display network-based sonar (e.g. from a separate Garmin sonar black box) over its network connections. It ships with Garmin's worldwide reference basemap, a low-detail global map suitable for general orientation, with detailed regional charts (Navionics+ or BlueChart g3 Vision) sold separately per cruising area.
The display uses a 10.1-inch IPS screen at 1024x600 (WSVGA) resolution, operated via a physical keypad and multifunction control knob rather than touch — a deliberate choice for reliability in wet or rough-water conditions where a touchscreen can be harder to use. Internally it has a 10Hz GPS/GLONASS receiver for fast, accurate position updates. For system integration it offers two Garmin Marine Network ports (for connecting sonar black boxes, radar, and additional displays), one NMEA 2000 port, one NMEA 0183 input/output pair for older instruments, and built-in Wi-Fi for the Garmin ActiveCaptain app (chart updates, smart notifications, and remote control from a phone or tablet). The housing is rated IPX7 for splash and immersion resistance. Because it's the non-sonar variant, it's best suited to a helm station or flybridge display in a multi-display network where sonar is already handled by another unit elsewhere on the boat, rather than as a single all-in-one fishing/navigation unit.
