Beyond its own built-in sonar, the 1022xsv is Panoptix-ready, meaning it can drive Garmin's Panoptix and LiveScope live-sonar transducers if added later, giving it the same upgrade path as Garmin's ECHOMAP Ultra series. It's fully networkable with two dedicated network ports, letting it link to additional displays, radar, sonar modules and SiriusXM weather/entertainment receivers, and it supports both NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 for wide compatibility with existing marine electronics on a boat being refitted rather than built from scratch. Physical interaction is via a traditional keypad with user-programmable buttons and a multifunction control knob, rather than touchscreen-only operation — a deliberate design choice on Garmin's xsv-series units for reliable control in wet, rough-water or gloved-hand conditions where a touchscreen can be less reliable. Garmin backs the GPSMAP series with its standard marine electronics warranty, and the xsv naming (extended sonar) distinguishes this model from plainer GPSMAP units in Garmin's range that ship without any built-in sonar capability at all.
