Garmin GPSMAP 8412xsv
The Garmin GPSMAP 8412xsv is a 12-inch chartplotter/sonar combo from Garmin's original GPSMAP 8400 series — the first generation of Garmin's large-format blackbox-style multifunction displays, later followed (in the same 12-inch class) by the faster GPSMAP 8612xsv. It shares the same 12-inch Full HD IPS touchscreen format (1920 x 1080) that made the series known for wide viewing angles and strong sunlight and polarized-lens readability, remaining a genuinely capable, well-supported chartplotter even as the newer 8600-series has become Garmin's current-generation flagship.
Like the rest of the xsv range, the 8412xsv has sonar built directly into the display — traditional CHIRP, plus CHIRP ClearVü and SideVü scanning sonar — so no separate black box sonar module is needed to see structure and fish beneath and to the sides of the boat. It supports Garmin's Panoptix and LiveScope live-scanning sonar for anglers who want real-time forward/down imaging (transducers sold separately), and networks over NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 for autopilot, radar, camera and instrument integration. Wi-Fi connectivity links the unit to the ActiveCaptain app for wireless chart and software updates, and dual microSD card slots provide onboard storage for extra charts and user data. This SKU ships with a worldwide basemap preloaded, making it suited to cruising or fishing outside North American waters as well as within them.
