It can drive a single high-power channel or true dual-channel CHIRP sonar, with each channel capable of up to 3 kW depending on the transducer connected, across a 25-250 kHz frequency range, and Garmin rates it to reach a maximum depth of roughly 10,000 feet (again transducer-dependent). Compared to its predecessor, Garmin specifies up to six times the sonar transmit rate, which shows up as noticeably more detail and better target separation and bottom discrimination on screen at typical trolling and cruising speeds. It supports a wide range of Garmin and Airmar transducers, manually or automatically configured, and can optionally be paired with Garmin's MSC 10 external satellite compass so heave compensation keeps sonar returns steady through wave and swell motion rather than smearing with the boat's roll and pitch. The IPX7-rated enclosure is built to handle sun, rain and vibration in a typical engine-room or lazarette mounting location.
