The HP 230W Smart AC Adapter (HP part AQ9X8AA) is a high-power barrel-plug charger for HP's performance laptops, gaming notebooks and mobile workstations that use a 4.5 mm barrel charging port. It supplies up to 230 W at 19.5 V, enough for systems with high-wattage processors and discrete graphics that cannot run at full performance on a USB-C charger. HP describes it as a smart adapter that has been tested with HP laptop devices, with an embedded resistor and built-in protection so the laptop can identify the adapter and draw power safely. The adapter body measures 180 x 88 x 25.4 mm and weighs about 635 g; it has an attached DC cable ending in a right-angled 4.5 mm barrel connector, plus a separate AC power cord. At least 30% of its plastic is post-consumer recycled. It is a typical buy as a replacement for a lost or damaged original charger, or as a second charger to keep at the office or in a travel bag. Check that your laptop's original charger is a 230 W, 4.5 mm HP unit before ordering. HP covers it with a one-year limited warranty.
