In printers that use a separate imaging drum, the drum handles the actual electrostatic image-transfer process onto the page and is rated for a much longer service life (typically covering several toner cartridge changes) before it needs replacing itself - a genuinely different maintenance item from toner, which simply runs out of the actual black powder that forms the printed image. Replacing the imaging drum when it reaches end-of-life is necessary to maintain print quality (a worn drum causes visible print defects like streaking or uneven density) even if toner is still available in the printer. The exact compatible printer model(s) for this specific part number could not be independently confirmed this session.
