It communicates over dual QPI links at 9.6GT/s for fast inter-socket communication in dual-CPU builds, has a built-in quad-channel DDR4-2400 memory controller supporting up to 1,536GB of system memory with 76.8GB/s of memory bandwidth, and provides 40 lanes of PCIe 3.0 for GPUs, storage controllers and other expansion cards. This is a genuine enterprise/data centre part, well suited to virtualisation hosts, dense multi-threaded workloads, or building/upgrading an older dual-Xeon server platform rather than a desktop build. This chip was widely deployed in dual-socket server and workstation builds during its production run, and remains a popular budget upgrade path for older LGA2011-v3/v4 platforms even today.
