The Intellinet 550192 is a powerline broadband router: it combines a router with a powerline network adapter, so your internet connection can reach rooms that Wi-Fi does not cover well, using the home's existing electrical wiring instead of new network cables. It uses the HomePlug 1.0 Turbo powerline standard, rated at up to 85 Mbps across the power line. That is enough for everyday browsing, streaming and typical home fibre or ADSL speeds, but it is not a gigabit solution. An integrated 4-port LAN switch connects several wired devices, such as a PC, smart TV or printer, from the one unit. It suits older houses and flats where drilling for cable is impractical, and offices that need a wired link in another room. Powerline performance depends on the wiring and should be used on the same electrical circuit, plugged directly into a wall socket rather than a multiplug. Note that HomePlug 1.0 Turbo is an older standard and may not work with newer HomePlug AV adapters.
