As an 8-bay unit it supports hardware RAID configurations across its drives, letting a studio balance capacity against redundancy (protecting against a single drive failure without losing data) depending on how the array is configured. This class of desktop storage array is a common choice for video editing suites working with large uncompressed or high-bitrate footage, photography studios with large image libraries, and any creative workflow needing substantial local, fast, redundant capacity on a desk or in a server rack rather than relying solely on cloud or network storage. LaCie's Pro-series enclosures are typically built with a robust metal chassis and active cooling suited to sustained professional workloads rather than casual home-office use. Housing 8 drives internally rather than relying on external daisy-chained enclosures also keeps cabling and desk footprint simpler for a studio wanting a single, self-contained high-capacity storage box rather than a sprawl of separate drive enclosures.
