The EmpirBus MCU v2 (Master Control Unit) is the central processing brain of an EmpirBus digital switching network -- where a DCM handles the actual circuit switching and fusing out at the load, the MCU is the module that stores the vessel's whole configuration, runs the control logic, and pushes settings out to every DCM/Connect module on the network, including automatically re-pushing a saved configuration to a replacement module if one is ever swapped out during a repair. It's the component that turns a set of individual DCMs and Connect modules into one coherent, centrally-managed digital switching system rather than a collection of independently-wired parts.
This v2 unit connects to the boat's NMEA 2000 backbone (LEN-4 rated) for network power and chartplotter integration, and adds 2 galvanically-isolated auxiliary CAN ports plus 2 galvanically-isolated RS485 serial ports for expansion -- extra digital-switching capacity, or integration with third-party marine electronics that speak CAN or RS485 rather than pure NMEA 2000. It also carries 1 digital input (9-32V) and 2 digital outputs (100mA) of its own for simple local sensing or signalling. It runs on a wide 9-32V DC input, drawing a modest 195mA at 9V, housed in a compact IP65-rated enclosure (173 x 89 x 32.5mm, 200g) rated for the -20C to +55C range typical of a marine electrical compartment. Sold as the bare control unit for a systems integrator commissioning or expanding an EmpirBus network, not a stand-alone consumer product.
