This amplifier is built specifically for marine environments: its chassis is cast alloy with a marine-grade powder coat finish and corrosion-resistant hardware and connectors, standing up to salt air, spray and vibration in ways a car-audio amplifier isn't rated for. Eight channels is enough to independently drive a full boat audio system - cockpit speakers, cabin speakers, a tower or wake-tower pair, and a subwoofer - all from one compact unit rather than stacking several smaller amps. It can also be bridged for higher output on fewer channels (up to 200W x 4 bridged into 4 ohms) if a boat's speaker count is lower but power demand per speaker is higher.
