The Neumann EA 89 A (catalogue number 007195) is the nickel-finish elastic suspension, or shock mount, for Neumann's U 89 family of large-diaphragm studio condenser microphones. A shock mount isolates the microphone from vibration travelling up the stand - footsteps, floor rumble, bumps and stand handling - so these low-frequency noises don't reach the capsule. The microphone screws into the threaded ring at the base, and the elastic cradle suspends it inside the outer frame. The EA 89 A has a swivel mount with a 5/8-inch-27 female thread, plus a thread adapter so it can also be attached to stands with 1/2-inch and 3/8-inch threads. The nickel version matches nickel-finish microphones; Neumann also sells a black version (EA 89 A mt, 007196) for matte black microphones. Replacement elastic bands are available separately from Neumann. It is used in recording studios, broadcast voice-over booths and project studios running a U 89 or U 89 i.
