Garmin Panoptix PS31 Forward, Transom/Trolling

The Garmin Panoptix PS31 is a forward-looking live-scanning sonar transducer, mountable on either the boat's transom or a trolling motor. It operates at 417kHz with 144W of transmit power, giving real-time LiveVu Forward and RealVu 3D Forward sonar views of structure, bait and fish up to 91m (300ft) ahead of and beneath the boat - genuinely useful for seeing what's coming up before you're on top of it, rather than only showing what's directly below.
Beamwidth options run from a narrow 10x90 degrees up to a wide 40x90 degrees for LiveVu Forward, plus a 60x90 degree RealVu 3D Forward mode for a genuine three-dimensional view of the water column ahead, and the transducer supports mounting at 0-70 degree transom angles to suit different hull shapes. It's IPX7 waterproof and weighs 800g. This is aimed at anglers who want to spot fish and structure before running over them - approaching a reef, wreck or drop-off - complementing a down-looking sonar rather than replacing it. Garmin advises keeping the transom-mounted transducer out of the water above 20mph, and avoiding sustained speeds over 25mph if mounted below the waterline, since higher speeds can generate strain and spray on the unit. Its LiveVu Forward mode also refreshes fast enough to track a lure or bait in real time as it's retrieved back toward the boat.
