The Radial J48 (part R800 3001 00) is a phantom-powered active direct box for live touring and professional studios, built to handle extreme transients without distortion while delivering the natural sound of the instrument. Battery-powered basses and guitars can output as much as 7 V at full volume, which overloads typical active DIs; the J48 uses a proprietary switching power supply that raises its internal rail voltage to handle up to about 9 V, giving more headroom and lower distortion. It is ideal for acoustic guitar, bass and keyboards, for recording direct, and for capturing dry tracks for re-amping. It has a 1/4" input and thru, balanced XLR output, input pad, mono merge for stereo sources, polarity reverse, ground lift and a high-pass filter, and runs on 48 V phantom power - no batteries. Radial specifies 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 109 dB dynamic range and 0.002% THD. The 14-gauge steel box measures 84 x 127 x 48 mm and weighs 720 g.
