The Radial Studio-Q is a compact desktop cue and talkback controller that lets an engineer or producer talk to artists in a separate live room or vocal booth through their headphone cue mix. Pressing the large talkback button activates the built-in omnidirectional microphone and at the same time dims the programme playback, so the talkback is clearly heard. An external dynamic microphone can be plugged into the XLR input as an alternative talkback source, for example for a producer or band member, and a footswitch can be connected for hands-free remote operation. A beacon light can be connected via a 1/4-inch cable to give a visual indication whenever talkback is active. Front-panel controls set programme level, dim amount, internal-mic and external-mic levels and mic output. The programme input and output let it sit between the recording system and the headphone amplifier. It suits home, project and commercial studios wanting simple, reliable studio communication.
