Shadow Drive is the mechanism that lets the person at the wheel simply turn it to instantly disengage the autopilot and take manual control, without hunting for a standby button — a safety-relevant feature on any powerboat autopilot. The bundled GHC 50 is Garmin's 5-inch sunlight-readable touchscreen autopilot instrument, sharing its glass design language with Garmin's larger GPSMAP chartplotter displays so it looks and feels consistent at the helm. Because this is the "Compact" hydraulic variant, it's built around a smaller-displacement pump suited to smaller helm pumps and steering systems than Garmin's full-size Reactor 40 hydraulic pump, making it the right choice for boats where physical space around the steering system is limited. Garmin positions the Compact Hydraulic corepack specifically for helm pumps under roughly 1.4 cubic inches of displacement, a size bracket typical of smaller centre consoles and cruisers where a full-size Reactor 40 pump would be unnecessarily large.
