Garmin Reactor 40 Mechanical Retrofit Corepack w/GHC 50

Garmin Reactor 40 Mechanical Retrofit Corepack w/GHC 50

This is a Garmin Reactor 40 Mechanical Retrofit Corepack, bundled with a GHC 50 autopilot control head — a complete core kit for adding Garmin's Reactor 40 autopilot to a boat that already has a traditional mechanical steering system (cable, rack-and-pinion, or similar), rather than hydraulic or steer-by-wire steering. "Mechanical retrofit" configurations use a mechanical drive unit (typically a linear or rotary drive that physically turns the boat's existing steering cable or wheel) instead of a hydraulic pump, making this corepack the right starting point for older or simpler boats being upgraded to autopilot rather than a new-build hydraulic installation.

More Info

The corepack bundles the core electronics needed to run the autopilot: the Course Computer Unit (CCU) built for mechanical-drive steering, a 9-axis heading sensor for attitude and heading reference, and the GHC 50 control head — Garmin's autopilot display/keypad used to engage the autopilot, adjust course, and steer via dodge/pattern-steer controls. It integrates with the wider Garmin Marine Network and NMEA 2000, so once installed it can be driven from a compatible Garmin chartplotter as well as the dedicated GHC 50 head. A mechanical drive unit (linear or rotary, sized to the boat) and mounting hardware for the physical steering connection are sold separately to match the specific vessel's steering geometry, since that part is boat-specific. As with every Reactor 40 configuration, dockside setup and a sea trial calibration are required to commission the system before first use, and professional marine installation is strongly recommended given the mechanical linkage into the helm.
