As with the rest of the Reactor range, it uses a solid-state 9-axis AHRS, which Garmin says can be mounted in almost any orientation on the boat while still delivering accurate heading and attitude data -- genuinely useful on outboard-powered center consoles where a traditional under-console autopilot mounting location isn't always available. Calibration and installation are built to be straightforward specifically because it's talking to Yamaha's own electronic steering rather than needing to be matched to a hydraulic cylinder size or flow rate. Once connected to a compatible Garmin chartplotter, it delivers the same core powerboat autopilot features as the rest of the Reactor 40 range -- heading hold and step turns -- and the GHC 50 shares its data and settings directly with any other connected Garmin MFDs and instruments on the network, so settings don't need to be duplicated across displays.
