The Rycote Extension 4 (part 010704) is a spare body section for Rycote's Modular Windshield system. It fits between the halves of a Modular Windshield 4 (330 mm) to lengthen it into a Windshield 8 (590 mm), so a sound recordist can house a longer shotgun microphone without buying a complete new windshield. Rycote rates the resulting WS 8 as suitable for microphones from 466 mm up to 540 mm long. The extension is a lightweight, durable basket made from flexible grey plastic netting with an acoustic screening material attached, and it is 260 mm long and 100 mm high. Used with Rycote's modular suspensions, the windshield reduces wind noise by up to 30 dB (figure quoted with the WS 4), making it a staple for broadcast, film and field recording crews working outdoors with boom-mounted microphones. This item is the extension only - the windshield ends, suspension and microphone are not included.
