The Samsung Essential Monitor S3 (S30GD, LS27D300GA) is a 27-inch Full HD office and home monitor with an IPS panel and a borderless three-sided design. The 1920 x 1080 IPS screen gives consistent colour from wide 178-degree viewing angles, covers 72% of the NTSC colour gamut and has 250 nits typical brightness with a 1000:1 contrast ratio. A refresh rate of up to 100Hz (set in the monitor menu; it defaults to 60Hz) and 5ms grey-to-grey response make scrolling, spreadsheets and light gaming look smoother than on a standard 60Hz screen. Eye Saver Mode and Flicker Free technology help reduce eye strain over long working days, and Eco Saving Plus trims power use. Connection is simple, with one HDMI 1.4 and one D-Sub (VGA) input, so it also works with older PCs and laptops; there are no speakers. The stand tilts from -2 to 21 degrees and the screen is VESA 100 x 100 wall or arm mountable. A good value pick for South African offices and home workstations.
