This unit is the Seagate Expansion Desktop 16TB external hard drive, a high-capacity 3.5-inch USB drive from Seagate's Expansion range, built for customers who need a very large amount of straightforward bulk storage — full system image backups, large media archives, surveillance footage retention or simply a big second drive for a growing photo/video collection. At 16TB it sits at the upper end of what a single external desktop drive currently offers, giving substantial headroom before a second drive is needed. Like the rest of the Expansion Desktop line it connects over USB 3.0 and, being a 3.5-inch mechanism, draws power from its own external adapter rather than the USB port, which is the usual trade-off for reaching this level of capacity affordably compared with a bus-powered portable drive. It's a no-frills drive with no bundled encryption or backup software layer — Seagate's positioning for the Expansion range is dependable, low-cost-per-terabyte storage rather than added features. Backed by Seagate's standard 2-year limited warranty on this range.
