The Sennheiser e 965 is a top-of-the-range handheld condenser vocal microphone from the evolution series, built to give studio-like detail and resolution on stage while remaining robust enough for touring. It uses an externally polarised dual-diaphragm (true large-diaphragm) condenser capsule, and its pickup pattern is switchable between cardioid and supercardioid, so the engineer can trade a wider, more forgiving pickup for extra feedback rejection on loud stages. A switchable pre-attenuation pad raises the maximum SPL from 142 dB to 152 dB for powerful singers.
