The Sennheiser MD 421 Kompakt is a multipurpose cardioid dynamic microphone that carries forward the sound of the classic MD 421, a studio and stage staple for decades, in a more compact body. It is used on guitar amplifiers, toms and other drums, brass, vocals and broadcast speech. The cardioid pattern gives effective feedback rejection on stage, and an internal bass tube extends the low-frequency response, giving a 30 Hz - 17 kHz range. It handles exceptionally high sound pressure levels. The redesigned mounting clip is permanently attached, and the optional MZH drum clamp screws into it for secure drum miking. Build quality is tour-grade: rugged frame, stainless-steel basket, a protective inner chassis enclosure against dust and humidity, and a gold-plated 3-pin XLR connector. Sensitivity is 2 mV/Pa and nominal impedance 250 ohms. The microphone weighs 159 g and operates from -15 to +55 °C. It is engineered in Germany.
