The Sennheiser MKE 1-5 (article 502046) is the black, open-ended version of the MKE 1, Sennheiser's smallest professional clip-on lavalier microphone. The unterminated 3 m cable lets a technician solder on whichever connector a particular bodypack transmitter needs, which is common in theatre and broadcast departments that run mixed wireless inventories. Its 3.3 mm capsule makes it virtually invisible on a presenter, actor or singer, while a newly developed moisture-resistant protective membrane, protective gauze and multi-purpose cap help it survive sweat and make-up in harsh live conditions. Sennheiser rates it at a maximum sound pressure level of 142 dB, with an omnidirectional pick-up pattern, 20 Hz to 20 kHz response and very high speech intelligibility. The ultra-thin 1 mm, heavy-duty cable has a moulded anti-kink sleeve to keep handling noise down, and flexible tubes allow the mic to be fixed with clips or adhesive tape. It suits musicals, live shows, presentations and broadcast applications where the microphone has to be hidden in costume or hair. Sennheiser covers the microphone with a two-year warranty.
