The Sennheiser MKS 4 (article 504299) is an elastic suspension, or shock mount, for Sennheiser's MK 4 large-diaphragm studio condenser microphone (the product name also lists the MK 8). The microphone sits inside a ring held by elastic cords, which isolates it from vibration, footfall and knocks travelling up the microphone stand, so rumble and handling noise do not reach the recording. The MKS 4 uses an open-ring design, which lets the microphone be positioned close to the sound source, useful when miking vocals, acoustic instruments or guitar cabinets at short distances. The mount attaches to a standard microphone stand thread and includes an angle-adjustable clamp so the capsule can be aimed accurately. It is aimed at home and project studios, broadcasters and podcasters who use an MK 4 and want to reduce low-frequency noise without resorting to heavy high-pass filtering. The microphone itself is not included. Sennheiser covers the mount with its standard two-year warranty.
