The Sennheiser MZW 421-A (article 000536) is the foam windshield for the Sennheiser MD 421 II dynamic microphone, finished in anthracite. The MD 421 is a studio and stage workhorse used on toms, guitar amplifiers, brass, broadcast voice and speech, and this windshield slips over its grille to reduce wind noise outdoors and to soften plosive pops and breath noise when the microphone is used close to a speaker's or singer's mouth. It also helps keep saliva and dust out of the capsule, which is useful on shared microphones in broadcast studios, radio stations and houses of worship. The windshield is a spherical open-cell foam ball with a large opening that fits over the front of the microphone body. Sennheiser lists a weight of about 19 g and a diameter of about 90 mm. It is a genuine Sennheiser spare, useful for replacing a worn, torn or lost windshield or for keeping a spare in a mic kit. It is sold as a single windshield; the microphone is not included. It carries Sennheiser's two-year warranty.
