Sommer Cable SC-Mercator CAT.7 PUR XL (581-0251) is a heavy-duty shielded Cat.7 network cable built for mobile outdoor use, for example in outside-broadcast vans, touring audio systems and temporary event networks carrying digital audio or Ethernet. It has eight 0.26 mm2 (AWG23) oxygen-free copper conductors in four pairs; each pair is foil-screened (PiMF) and the whole cable has a tinned copper braid, giving 100 percent shield coverage (S/FTP). The larger conductors allow runs of up to about 125 m, and Sommer notes Ethersound runs of more than 100 m. The black jacket is halogen-free, flame-retardant PUR to IEC 60332-1, highly UV resistant, notch- and tread-resistant and flexible in the cold, so it reels easily. Outside diameter is 8.5 mm, weight 80 g per metre, impedance 100 ohm, and the rated temperature range is -40 to 80 C. It is suitable for Cat.5e, Cat.6, Cat.6a and Cat.7 links and is terminated with rugged RJ45 connectors such as Neutrik etherCON. Sold as bulk cable.
