Sommer Cable Binary 234 AES/EBU (article 520-0051) is a 110-ohm two-core data cable for DMX lighting control and AES/EBU digital audio, sold by the metre from bulk. It is used to wire lighting desks, dimmers, moving heads and scanners, digital mixing consoles and digital amplifiers, in both installations and mobile indoor/outdoor rigs, and Sommer states error-free transmission over runs of up to 1,000 metres. Construction is two 0.34 mm² (AWG 22) oxygen-free copper conductors of 19 strands with foam PE insulation, screened by an aluminium-vaporised fleece plus a helical copper mesh screen for 100 % coverage, under a tough black PVC jacket designed to survive being pulled through sharp-edged truss. Electrically it offers 63 pF/m conductor-to-conductor and 115 pF/m conductor-to-shield capacitance at a 110 ohm impedance. It weighs about 50 g per metre and is rated from -25 to +80 °C. Terminate with 3- or 5-pin XLR connectors to make DMX or AES leads.
