This is a genuine Synology-branded 32GB DDR4 ECC Registered DIMM, a server-grade memory module intended for Synology's RackStation and higher-end DiskStation NAS units that support ECC RAM. Registered (buffered) ECC memory is used in server and NAS platforms rather than desktops because it both corrects single-bit memory errors on the fly — important for long-running storage and virtualisation workloads where data integrity matters — and reduces electrical load on the memory controller, allowing higher-capacity, higher-density configurations than unbuffered RAM. Buyers should confirm compatibility against their specific Synology model's supported memory list before ordering, since ECC RDIMM support varies by unit.
