The Verbatim Vi550 S3 128GB (Verbatim part 49350) is a 2.5-inch, 7 mm internal SATA III solid state drive for upgrading an older laptop or desktop from a hard drive, or for use as a small boot drive. Replacing a mechanical drive with an SSD like this makes Windows start up, open programs and load files far faster, and it is silent and more resistant to knocks because it has no moving parts. Verbatim rates sequential transfers at up to 520 MB/s read and 430 MB/s write over the 6 Gb/s SATA interface, with a Phison PS3111 controller and 3D NAND flash, S.M.A.R.T. health monitoring and a 2,000,000-hour MTBF. At 128 GB it is best suited to an operating system and core applications rather than large media libraries. The 7 mm thickness fits standard 2.5-inch notebook bays and, with a bracket, desktop 3.5-inch bays. The drive measures 100 x 70 x 7 mm and weighs 45 g, with an operating temperature of 0 to 70 degrees Celsius and 1,500 G shock tolerance.
